Microsoft Windows Vista Version Information:
| Vista Version: | Microsoft's Description: | Recommendation: |
| Home Basic | Windows Vista Home Basic is ideal for homes with basic computing needs like e-mail, browsing the Internet, and viewing photos. Easy to set up and maintain, it enables you to quickly find what you're looking for on your PC and the Internet, while providing a more secure environment to help protect you from an unpredictable world. | Janus does not recommend this version due to its limited connectivity and reduced functionality. |
| Home Premium | Windows Vista Home Premium is the preferred edition for home desktop and mobile PCs. It provides a breakthrough design that brings your world into sharper focus while delivering the productivity, entertainment, and security you need from your PC at home or on the go. | Janus only recommends this version to customers that don't connect to any business servers what so ever. This is due to limited networking capabilities and VPN access to online servers |
| Business | Windows Vista Business is the first edition of Windows designed specifically to meet the needs of small businesses. You'll spend less time on technology support-related issues—so you can spend more time making your business successful. Windows Vista Business is the definitive choice for your business today and tomorrow. | Janus recommends this version as a direct replacement to Windows XP Professional, however if it is not critical to update at this time, we recommend that you wait until Service Pack 1 is released as this Operating System has not been fully tested in real world environments.
We also recommend that you not upgrade if any applications you use are listed on the incompatibility list above. |
| Ultimate | Windows Vista Ultimate is the choice for those who want to have it all. Easily shift between the worlds of productivity and play with the most complete edition of Windows Vista. Ultimate provides the power, security, and mobility features needed for work, and all the entertainment features that you want for fun. | Also a direct replacement for Windows XP Professional, this version is identical to the Vista Business version above, but with a few added bells and whistles. For normal daily business use, Janus does not recommend this version as there is no added value to business in the extra cost. |
| Enterprise | Designed to significantly lower IT costs and risks, Windows Vista Enterprise meets the needs of large, global organizations with complex IT infrastructures. | Janus does not recommend this version to any of its clients at this time. |

Office 2007 Information:
Along with Windows, Microsoft has also released new versions of the Microsoft Office Suites of Applications. Below is a chart of all the new versions and what applications are included with each. If your organization does not need Microsoft Access, Janus Recommends the Microsoft Office Standard Suite. If Microsoft Access is a required element of your business, Then Janus recommends the Microsoft Office Professional Plus suite.

NOTE: For users of Microsoft FrontPage. Microsoft has discontinued this application from the Office lineup and has replaced it with either Microsoft Expressions Web or Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer. Both programs are identical with the exception that SharePoint designer is geared towards Web Application Designers and contains some advanced features to support this. Expressions Web Designer is a direct replacement for all current users of Microsoft FrontPage.
